Parklife
by Blur

This song came out in 1994 at the start of the height of Britpop, my youth. I remember around that era, on the main radio stations, TV shows etc Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass, Manic Street Preachers, Suede…loads of great bands were played. Don’t get me wrong, there was a lot of rubbish too and you only tend to remember the good stuff when you look back, but even so the state of ‘pop music’ currently compared to eras like 94-97 is low.

Parklife is a classic. A very British song, musically, lyrically and vocally (legendary Mod movie Quadrophenia star Phil Daniels ‘talks’ the lyrics in his cockney accent and Damon Albarn’s vocals are very Essex around this period). Great guitar-pop tune, with sing-along chorus, with witty humorous and observant lyrics  that captures a period and element of city culture perfectly, the way Blur did in this period of their career. No mater how mundane the subjects, still very appealing to relate too. Makes me feel young and summery!
